K-12 Students

The Paul Robeson Saturday Leadership Academy is another example of our community engagement.  The inaugural session began in October 2011 and ran for six weeks.  It included game design, math enrichment, and robotics for 40 middle and high school students from Northern Virginia.  Student enrollment continues to increase and in an effort to connect technology with the humanities, we added a digital storytelling component.  We also included college readiness and mentoring components to the program.  Our spring 2014 session will operate this April.  Mason students, especially members of the National Society for Black Engineers, play an integral part in the mentoring sessions and robotics classes.  Mason graduate and undergraduate students serve as volunteers and paid instructors.  Check out the video here:  Paul Robeson Saturday Leadership Academy
